Uganda Christian University (UCU) has held her first ever virtual graduation successfully with over 1,810 graduating in different disciplines.
Speaking at the ceremony, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of UCU, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, advised graduands to serve selflessly. He said the way to promotion is through service to humanity.
“In addition to your degrees, you must be ready to serve people with humility” Kaziimba said.
He also applauded the university for being the first in the history of Uganda to be granted approval to offer online classes and a Charter in 2004.
“We have empowered you with the mind to think and take independent decisions. This is your generation so you need to stand for peace and civility,” he said.
The former Vice Chancellor, who was the Chief Guest, Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi, congratulated graduands and asked them to live up to their dreams if they are to be successful in life.
“The University is navigating through the turbulent times but this means that you need to play your part as alumni of this great institution,” Senyonyi said.
He also encouraged them to uphold UCU Core Values which are; Christ-Centeredness, Diligence, Integrity, Servanthood and Stewardship, adding that these will shape their work ethics.
The Vice Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, said that the University is shifting to digital operations so as to match the current needs in the market.
“We have a vision to becoming an e-campus. We have moved a step in doing this because we successfully held Pre-Entry Exams for the following programmes; Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. We also held virtual Guild Campaigns, elections and handover.
